Troubleshoot the problem first: Degasser Errors Caused by air in the degasser chambers OR Failure to use ALL of the degasser channels all of the time may result in errors. Purge ALL degasser channels with fresh liquid, then equilibrate the system and re-test. If the system has air trapped inside, it may not function properly so flushing the system should always be done before any testing or repairs.
All HPLC degasser modules will wear out and break over time. This is normal. They require regular replacement or refurbishment (repair) just like the rest of the modules do.
- In our experience, most of the integrated degassers, built into the pumps (e.g. LPG-3400 Series) fail after 3 to 5 years of use. If they are more than 5 years old, they are probably broken even if no error light or message appears.
- Standalone degasser modules such as the SRD-3200, SRD-3400 and SRD-3600 series modules often last 4 or 5 years before requiring service.
- Do not wait for an error light or message to appear. Service is usually required long before any "error" lights or messages appear.
- NEVER replace the vacuum pump alone on a degasser (a novice mistake). Always have the complete degasser professionally tested to find out which parts are actually damaged, contaminated and/or evaluated BEFORE replacing any parts (this requires specialized test equipment and knowledge). Even if the vacuum pump does require replacement, the rest of the vacuum system is contaminated. Failure to have the degasser professionally diagnosed and tested first often results in damage to the replacement parts (esp. the vac pump) because the true cause of the failure was not identified and repaired (e.g. If one of more degassing chambers is damaged, then the replacement vacuum pump will be re-contaminated AND damaged). Specialized equipment is needed to test the degassing system.

When you send your HPLC degassing module to Chiralizer Services, we will fully evaluate all of the component parts of the degasser to correctly determine which parts of your degasser are defective. After testing is complete, you will be emailed a formal diagnostic report and quotation to repair and test the system. We do charge a nominal diagnostic fee to evaluate, clean and test your degasser ($125 USD), but you retain control over the decision to have it optionally repaired or not. Full payment for the testing service or testing service AND repair are required before return.
